Publishers Description
This download is for Windows, you can also download other versions of the game from the developers site HERE.

Widelands is an open source (GPLed) real-time strategy game. It is built upon the SDL and other open source libraries and is (and will always be) under heavy development.

If you knew Settlers I & II? (© Bluebyte), then you already have a rough idea what Widelands is all about because Widelands is heavily inspired by those two games.

  • Four Worlds (Tile Sets) (Greenland, Winterland, Blackland and Desert)
  • Three Tribes (Barbarians, Imperials and Atlanteans)
  • Several playable single player (tutorial) missions
  • Maps for single and multiplayer mode
  • Save and load of single and multiplayer games
  • Ability to build a settlement from scratch
  • Military and warfare (Attacking, Training, defending, conquering of military buildings)
  • A map editor, to build your own maps and campaigns

Widelands is a great strategy game where you start out on a small piece of land with a few useful resources. The aim is to build yourself an empire with as many inhabitants as possible.  As you build your empire, you'll face enemies who are determined to overthrow your efforts as they race to conquer the world also!.  Well rated :)
This is an open interface, graphic, strategy game involving 3 races: Alantians, Empires, and Barbarians. The game is like a simple Civ game where the object is to build up your infrastructure while acquiring territory. Eventually you will run into the oposition which could be any of the 3 races. That then means war.

You can either play against the computer or another player online. The game has a wiki type online help resource. Since the game is an ongoing development project there are some features that won't work, and some ambiguities, still it is a nice game to play with good future possibilities. It has very good graphics with animation. You can run the game at an unlimited speedup.

The tutorial is very basic and I sugrest learning the game through the AI at first before going online.

You have a wide selection of battle ground maps to choose from. You can build you own maps or edit existing ones.

It's worth a donation.
