Most of us have, at some time or another experienced the dreaded Blue Screen of Death (BSOD) which displays after an error has occurred on our machine. The problem is the message flashes by so quickly it is more often than not impossible to absorb or collect any of the information displayed. Now, for a lot of us, that information may as well be in Martian anyway but if submitted to an expert it can be, in some cases, an invaluable aid for diagnosing the problem.

Disabling the automatic restart feature will allow you to record the information and pass it on to your computer guru, help forum, support technician, whoever:-

In Windows XP.

1) Click on Start and then on Control Panel.

2) In the Control Panel double click to open System.

3) In the System Properties window click on the Advanced tab.

4) In the section labeled ?Startup and Recovery?, click on the Settings button.

5) In the section labeled ?System failure?, remove the checkmark from ?Automatically restart?.

6) Click OK, OK to exit.

In Vista.

1) Click on Start and then on Control Panel.

2) In the Control Panel double click to open System.

3) In the left panel under ?Tasks? click on Advanced system settings.

4) In the section labeled ?Startup and Recovery?, click on the Settings button.

5) In the section labeled ?System failure, remove the checkmark from ?Automatically restart?.

6) Click Ok, OK to exit.

Oh, I see this topic was covered fairly recently. Never mind I'll leave it here now...the original article did not mention the settings for XP plus there is bound to be some duplication along the way. Is that alright with you Marko?

No probs as far as I'm concerned Jim, nice addition to your already impressive collection of tips (IMG:style_emoticons/default/smile.gif)
