I decided to include this as a ‘how to’, even though it is a relatively simple operation, because it’s also one which may still remain undiscovered for many users.

The default wallpapers which come with a Windows operating system are very good but many would like to personalise their desktop background or just get tired of viewing the same old, same old. You can use any image or photo saved on your hard drive as wallpaper just by following this simple guide:

    In XP:

    1) Right click any blank (empty) space on the desktop and select Properties.
    2) In the ‘Display Properties’ window click on the Desktop tab.
    3) Click on the Browse button and navigate to the location of the photo/image you wish to use.
    4) Highlight the image/photo (left click on it once) and then click on the Open button.
    5) You should now see the selected image/photo displayed in the window.
    6) Click on Apply and then OK.

    In Vista:

    1) Right click any blank (empty) space on the desktop and select Personalize.
    2) From the list of options select Desktop Background.
    3) Click on the Browse button and navigate to the location of the photo/image you wish to use.
    4) Double (left) click on the desired image/photo.

You can also use third party freeware to take it even further. There are quite a few nice free wallpaper managers available which allow you to select multiple photos/images for a cycled display at user defined intervals. All the required photos/images must be contained in one folder. Just point your wallpaper manager to that folder, set the desired length for display and you have a constantly changing desktop background.
I am currently using Random BackGround from Reality Ripple to change my desktop wallpaper every 3 minutes. There is also a very good free wallpaper manager among Marko’s terrific range of freeware. It’s called Wallpaper Cycler Lite from NuonSoft and can be downloaded from Here..

    cheers….JIM
