It is with delight that I can announce FreewareBB will be remaining open.
It is with great pleasure also that I welcome on board Dan Cryer from Invision Software who has very generously offered his support to the site with guidance and hosting. With Dan on board we now can continue to raise the profile of FreewareBB and continue to offer some of the best and safest freeware downloads on the web.
We will be making some changes to the way certain areas function on the site over the coming weeks and our main focus has to be practical and functional, with such changes shaping the future of FreewareBB.
For example, we will be removing the support topics now in favour of download comments as support topics have proven to only confuse and muddy things on the site, potentially with the search engines also as in theory we then have 2 identical sets of information in different sections of the site. There will be an upgrade to the downloads section available to us shortly which will also be greatly improved.
We have also introduced a Facebook 'like' and 'Tweet' button on the forums which you can find at the end of a post so if you like a topic and think others should know about it please feel free to use those buttons :yahoo:
I'm sure Dan will pop along when he can and add some info to this thread, but for now I'd officially like to express my sincere gratitude to him for the support and great advice he has provided so far :)
Cheers
Marko

Hi all
I just thought I'd drop in and introduce myself. I'm Dan, I'm 24, from the UK and I work for Invision Power Services - The company that make this forum software.
I saw that FreewareBB was having troubles due to lost traffic, low member participation and thus poor ad revenue that simply doesn't cover the costs of hosting. It seemed a shame to me that a resource like this was going to go away simply because of something like that, so I offered Mark space on my server free of charge, and some advice on how to improve things here.
I can't pretend to know anything at all about freeware, so I'm not going to be here changing how the place is run or anything like that. Just a few little tweaks to get people involved again, some you'll like, some you might not. Here are some examples:
These are just a few bits and pieces, we'll be doing more as time goes on. :)

I can't pretend to know anything at all about freeware, so I'm not going to be here changing how the place is run or anything like that. Just a few little tweaks to get people involved again, some you'll like, some you might not. Here are some examples:
- To start with, something you'll like: We've removed all of the ads for now. I felt that since the server costs are covered, there's no point in them being there, and the ads we had were just too big and in your face.
- You now need to be logged in to participate on the forums, and more importantly, to download any freeware. This is important, because we want you guys to get involved. FreewareBB can't grow unless the people who use it participate.
- We've added the ability for you to "Like" and "Tweet" any content you think your friends will like. We hope this'll encourage you to share things with others, and that they might join too.
- You can now both join and sign in using Twitter or Facebook, to save you time. Most of the time you won't need to type a username or password, just click a little icon in the top corner and you're in.
These are just a few bits and pieces, we'll be doing more as time goes on. :)

How is everyone finding the new server? Is it faster than before? :)

I'm usually on each day to update and add downloads and I've noticed a significant improvement when doing the administration Dan. Given, I presume, the server is located in the UK I would have expected such though, hopefully our other international friends may be able to comment on their experiences :)
