As we often like to do here at FreewareBB, we're looking for your feedback, both good and bad!. Last year was a particularly rocky year for us all here, and with the pending closure of the site looming over us at one point we really did think we would loose the most honest and community driven download site around - thankfully that didn't happen, and we're delighted to announce that FreewareBB is once again climbing the search engines and rankings which means more people are beginning to register and join in . We can never stop asking for your input and help of spreading the word even further though, user input and activity is always paramount for any community driven site.

In this thread, we're asking for one thing you particularly like and dislike about FreewareBB - this helps us maintain and expand on the things you like and also helps us take a closer look at what we could do better. Please be as honest as you can with your comments, we value all constructive criticism

Freewarebb is an excellant site for both young and old.
The way the format is right now is OK, but, Just a suggestion and only a suggestion,
could please make it a little more GUI.
But overall me being computer savy do like it a lot

I like the site and find it useful. It's format is a little difficult to use at times. As when I need to find an item and do not know the name, but only the use. But all in all it's a good site. Keep up the good work. Thanks

This is the only freeware site I ever use due to knowing that the content will always be first class. Only drawback is that it is not too user friendly and takes a bit of time to work your way around for basic things. Perhaps a more intuitive GUI may be advantageous.

Guys, can you possibly give me any examples of where you find specific difficulties, such as whether it concerns the search on the site or another area or area's?

This is a very good site. I did like the old "presentation format" better than the "new format" (I realize the changes were minor). There is one "problem", however. Every now and then a download shows up containing a virus, trojan, etc. I check my downloads with different virus checkers and they all usually catch the same problem. I also use "Web of Trust" (W.O.T or WOT). Occasionally, a site shows up as untrustworthy. WOT is an add-on to Firefox. There are various reasons why a site may be considered untrustworthy - piracy, burying trojans, viruses, etc. Ypu may want to consider this add-on (for Firefox - for other browsers, download from their website - http://www.mywot.com/ ).

I understand that it is a lot of time-consuming work to maintain a site like this and your efforts really appreciated. Please keep up the good work.

BobC, we do check all our downloads before approval against services such as VirusTotal and we use our own antivirus scanning engine from Avast to determine whether we could be looking at false positives which proves to be the case in most alerts. Services like VirusTotal, which use multiple scanning engines, have been known to show problems when, in fact, they don't exist at all and this is why we no longer use them soley but take the download and scan in manually ourselves. We also use LinkExtend to ensure the developers site is not rated negatively, but this also isn't without it's problems and we've also found incorrect rating with some of the site safety ratings - all in all, we have to use our descretion most times to determine if we're looking at a potentially dangerous download/site or whether the developer has been labelled unfairly.

However, we always ask that members make us aware of any problems they find which can be done through the forums or by reporting the file as 'broken' using the links provided on the download itself, only then can we take the necessary action to reassure members the download is safe. If we can confirm there is an issue, the listing details are removed and the reasons why are then made available on the comments section for the download.

One thing I like: I can find any kind of program I want here, from drawing programs to clipboard managers - all for free. And, I know they're apt to be safe and virus-free, since each download is manually scanned.
One thing I dislike: Updates are sent out too many and too often. In the past week, I received 3 updates. I think updates should be sent no more than once a week, otherwise (as is the case with me), they can become bothersome.

Ah, yes, understand now - we don't normally send more than 1 per week, only when we feel members will benefit from the mail or there is something we have to say, don't worry we won't make a habbit of sending mail very often though
