With the recent release of Firefox 4 I wonder how many of us made the leap and what you all think of it. Personally, and despite the boasting, I'm really still not seeing a fantastic difference in speed. It's been said this version is upto 6 times faster than previous versions, er, not seeing it Moz

The "New & Fresh" look is indeed worthy of it's claims but again, not really feeling the whole 'minimalist' thing, at first it's a tad annoying but I guess that's just purely down to familiarity of the previous version and although I haven't yet used the new "sync" feature it does look pretty impressive, allowing you to basically synchronize your firefox between various computers at home or even an android phone meaning you will have access to the same firefox experience on any computer or even whilst on the move :good:

Security too has been improved which is always a good thing and many other area's have seen a lot of changes and improvements but overall and despite the obvious efforts by Mozilla and it's community of contributors I think the average user most probably won't be too impressed or excited by this latest release.

I'd say slightly better than 3.6, nothing to write home about but a step in the right direction

Did install it but was lost for a while. Messed around with it and changed some things like icon on toolbar positions and added some, but still could not get it like version 3.6. Just felt uncomfortable with it, so tried Slimbrowser for a short time and Opera but finally uninstalled FF4 and reinstalled 3.6 It's familiar, I like the positions of the icons, and I have it setup so I can easily find my way around it. Suits me for now, but can understand that many people will prefer the latest version.

One of the main things I did not like about FF4 was that it does not display the Gold Security Lock in the lower right corner when you are on a secure page. To me this is an essential security feature. I can easily see whether or not the page is secure. Having to click on the icon at the left of the URL on the address bar to see if you are still on a secure page is inconvenient and, for me, easily forgotten.

If they put the Gold Lock back, make it easier to get the toolbar icons exactly as they were with FF3.6 then I would update.

The look and feel I've kinda got used to, but this might help anyone just not able to get used to the new look: http://redherring2.wordpress.com/2011/01/17/firefox-4-restoring-firefox-3-ui/

Considering the supposed size of the changes they made (to the 'nuts and bolts' code); I am glad (and impressed) at how few bugs there are.

IMO: It feels like a small but solid step forward.

4.0.0 was carrying several bugs. Mozilla doesn't test enough before releasing
4.0.1 brought the fixes two or three weeks later. Meanwhile I had to get back to 3.6. And SqliteManager was not working any longer in 3.6

                        - Pages were often auto refreshing, resulting in a major problem on certain sales pages.
                        - Last session restore: empty instances were opening instead of tabs, on opening the soft.
                        - The address bar's combo was empty, without the suggestions.
                        - They loose a bunch of space, cause the address bar could be aside the menu bar (IE9 gets this). It should be an option.
                        + minor bugs

A real plus in 4.0.1: FireFox's process auto terminates much faster. Interesting on shutting down the computer.

Arbitrary relocation of Navigation Toolbar items that cannot be changed, for example "Home" button. Many of the other button locations can be changed by user, but i can't find how to put the "Home" button back where it was. Why is there no "GO" button for the address window?

[Reason I choose this answer (Can't really tell...) is the fact that, after years of using FF faithfully, it started to become buggier and buggier. One example, I have this TV program page I look up every day and despite the fact I always install the latest Flash, Shockwave, Silverlight and Java versions, from FF version 3.6 on, this page started not to be correctly rendered any more (kind of ugly formatted text version).
IE (including v.9), Chrome, even Maxthon have no problem with this same page. By the way, If Maxthon 3 could read all the Maxthon 2 settings and saved stuff, I would definitely go for it. It comes with lots of bells ans whistles to choose from, without having to go for numerous add-on's. Reasons are that Chrome seems the worst memory hog to me while (can't perform lots of editing in Office - usually involving a certain amount of pictures - without encountering some kind of trouble),while after a very satisfying short period of use, IE9 started to develop some strange behaviors (for example in the Yahoo Mail! Beta, whenever I delete a Mail in "Show Preview" mode, it jumps down four pages). But then, this is Vista (with all SPs and updates installed) and it looks like it hates its own MS products when it deems them "too recent" (IE9) or "too old" (Office XP which crashes on a more than daily basis).
Conclusion : a rather disappointing Web browser experience for this old retired IT guy! <_<

<_< I installed ver 4.0 and it removed my tool bar, and other customisations, some plugins weren't compatible, like "Free Download Manager"....great hi speed down-loader, the whole look and feel changed....I couldn't use it, so went back to earlier version...aah "home sweet home" again. I'll wait for a later version thank you, regards <_<

                                      LOL....I like it!!!

Haven't installed it yet, still using 3.6 something or the other. Reason being; I've read too many complaints, users reporting they don't like the changes, etc.

I've always maintained a policy of...'if it ain't broke, it doesn't need fixing!'

Same applies with FF. I'm happy, so why change!

Guess I'll have to sooner or later. By then though, hopefully all the bugs will be have been eradicated and some of the major complaints addressed.

                                      We live in hope!! :)

                                      Cheers all.....Jim

Well, looks as though my original decision may have been vindicated.

I was amazed to find a beta version of FF 5 is available already!!

Crikey, that must be some kind of record....although, Chrome would be hard to beat in that department!

Gave it a quick try , but will be staying with Chrome.
Chromes method of small improvements, instead of larger workovers as in FF seems to suit us better.
The uncluttered page from the initial installation is better with chrome and there are plenty of addons now available
although the ones i've used seem to have disappeared between versions 10 and 12.(maybe compatabilty problems)
Maybe i could play around with FF to appear like Chrome but why bother when there are no other benefits for me.
