A colleague of mine a few years ago told me of a story whilst he provided IT support to a company consisting of desktop computers. He received a phone call from a rather worried woman who explained she had spilled a half cup of coffee over her keyboard. Calming the woman down, he explained that the keyboard could be replaced easily and it would cost the company only a few quid.

She went on to say that she was going to run the keyboard under water to try and clear the spilt coffee and my colleague explained that although not recommended she could certainly try it as the chances were the keyboard would be done anyway. He made an appointment to visit her desk later that day and she thanked him.

A few hours later, he turned up at the desk of the worried woman who by this time had paper towels dotted across her workplace, in the middle of them all was a brand new laptop. My colleague asked where the affected keyboard was and she hastily pointed to the laptop - my colleague friend took a minute to absorb the situation and realised she hadn't been talking about a seperate keyboard from a desktop as he watched water ooze from this £800+ business class machine!!. The woman in question wasn't a regular member of staff, but a travelling salesperson who had only popped in to use the companies network ... with her laptop!!

Needless to say, neither made the same mistake again :) :good:

Please remember that we have people from many different timezones on the site and if your post requires a reply it could take longer at some at some points because of this.
