Now we're nearly a third of the way into New Year, I'm wondering if anyone made any resolutions, and more importantly, have we all stuck to them?.

For most of us, it's about giving something up, like not drinking as much, or eating, and in my case it's smoking!.

I've been smoking now for about 25 years and have tried a couple of times in the past but never really gave it 100% of my committment. I have vowed however, that 2012 WILL be the year I give up smoking for good and although I haven't put a firm date in my mind I'm actually trying to significantly reduce the amount I smoke right now and change my smoking habits. For example, an hour ago I had a coffee with 2 pancakes and lashings of butter - normally the minute I finish eating those I'd have lit up, but I've managed to go an hour now without doing so.

I know a lot of people will probably say, big deal, an hour's nothing, do a week !!. But for a smoker, smoking is not only an addiction, it's very much a habit and for most of us it's been a habit of a lifetime - breaking that habit slowly will begin to seperate those triggers, well it will for me anyway. At the end of the day I know I can go right now and have a cigarette, I actually do want one now because I'm talking about it !! :girl_cray2:

But hey, I'll have one, and it may be my last one today, it might not, but one things for sure, I'm determined to break this habbit and quit for good this year, one way or another - I've seen too many people develop too many problems through smoking and at the end of the day it's just not worth taking the risk anymore - we also have a grandchild on the way this year (May to be exact) and me and my wife want to be around for a lot of years to come to enjoy the family and not have to run outside everytime the kids are around, so here's to whatever resolution you have made this year, and do tell please :)

Wishing you all a very healthy and prosperous new year in 2012

I've given up making New Year resolutions myself mate. If there's one thing I've learned about myself over the years it's that I definitely don't have any won't power.

A mate once said to me, 'It's easy to give up smoking, I've done it hundreds of times'. To this day I don't think he ever saw the irony in that statement.

Good luck with your quest mate, no sarcasm intended, I really mean it. Not only will your health be better off but so will your bank account!

      Cheers now...Jim

Cheers claw, still having the odd one I'm afraid but today I've went from 20+ to 5 .. tomorrow is a new day so hopefully I'll cut it down even more till eventually I don't feel the need as much. My wife is also doing it but she's on the patches and she's not doing too bad, she has only had 1 all day and she's the same, normally 20+ a day. Keeping everything crossed it begins to get a little easier but I'm not kidding myself on, I know I'll need to just do it for real, no 1 or 2 a day - none a day is my goal :)

Never understood people who smokes. Can you really explain me a reasons? :)
I've tried it more than 10 times with no good feelings, so what can be positive in smoking? :)

Hey marko...good for you on the smoking thing. If you keep at it that same way, you will accomplish your goal. Sometimes it takes that little bit at a time commitment I guess to get something done...

Nowadays there is no reason to smoke - it was glorified years ago, children were even 'encouraged' to smoke by some shops who sold sweets and loose cigarettes side by side, and as we know, kids can be influenced relatively easily - it's like most things, let's make as much money as we can and not consider the consequences !!. It's only now with so many people developing health problems that our government are realising it's costing them way far too much money to treat everyone with smoking related illnesses, so they're trying to discourage people, especially the younger generation, from smoking.

If tobacco was discovered today, it would most probably be banned instantly because of the health implications - personally, I'd vote in favour of an outright ban and that would be an end to the matter for the majority of people, but then that would infringe on people's humans rights and we can't have that even though it may save their lives !!

Everything is an infringement,,if you correct your kid too loud ,you end up in court,,,if you don't correct them and something happens ,,you end up in court. Paying fines ($$$$). There it is ,it's all for $$$$$$$$$$. We have all the free rights we want as long as we can afford it!!!! :scratch_one-s_head:
