As to using Defender all I did was install,,it did the rest on it's own. Am I right Jim????
Yep, that would be the norm Claw. The only real difference between XP and later OS's is that WD needs to be downloaded and installed on XP but is built-in to both Vista and Win7. However, there are times when another 3rd party AV or security program may actually turn Windows Defender off without letting the user know (AVG is one which will do this) :

Open Windows Defender and, in the menu across the top, click on Tools.
Click on Options and from the menu in the left hand pane click on Real Time Protection and make sure the option to "Use real-time protection" is ticked.
Now, also in the left hand pane, click on Administrator and make sure the option to "Use this program" is ticked.
    Click Save and close out.

If I remember right(been awhile), on the last section ,I think it's settings ,,at the bottom check the box asking about showing the WD icon. Let me know if I remembered that right!!!! :scratch_one-s_head:

Can't remember how to access WD in XP myself Gremmy...been so long since I used XP. But I'd imagine, since it is an installed program, it would be under All Programs.
