XP has been an excellent OS and well supported after HP & Dell (I think) pushed MS into extending it's life. However, while ReactOS looks attractive and is an amazing piece of software by a small team, their progress has been slow because though these are bright guys they do have day jobs to work at. The NT core of XP was, from memory, over 4 million lines of code so tackling something like this as a home project is formidable to say the least. If you would like to try a Linux option then, IMHO, Mepis is very friendly and stable. If you already use Open Office, Firefox and Thunderbird then you will find the changeover very easy. You can, like most Linux Distros, run it straight from the CD or DVD without installing so that you can get the feel of the software, albeit running slowly. Whatever Linux option you choose you will probably be able to run existing Windows software by using the Wine program.

Indeed,thanks. Speaking of Linux, i've run across a distro that mimics win 7! I haven't had the chance to try it yet but it sures looks great! It's called Zorin..have a look:

Awesome! The only reason i haven't tried it yet is because the pc i'm on now only has a cd-rom, and this Distro is over 1gb so you will need a dvd to burn it.

Have you tried RyanVM Integrator? This is slightly off topic as Gremlinn kicked off with 'XP dead'........ Well, RyanVm may be a way of reviving XP while we all try double booting and choosing our future Linux distros. RyanVM is included among the downloads on this site and provides a method of integrating the MS service packs, drivers and kb updates since your original CD was burned. Effectively you can generate your own equivalent sp4 to give your old OS a fresh final run (without megabytes of debris). You can also eliminate some MS apps which you never use. My system is getting slightly shaky so I expect to try this myself soon. There is a positive and informative write-up here........
