If I remember correctly, MS have omitted media player from Windows 8 in an effort to avoid paying royalties - to be honest, with the amount of freeware DVD players available anyway it's really not a biggie for the end user anyway.   I've barely ever used media player in any of my windows installs simply because of the lack of codec support - it often couldn't even play avi files for goodness sakes !!

Personally, I'd opt for something like VLC Media Player for DVD playback or if you don't mind a basic player with major codec coverage then K-Lite is another fab alternative :)

So it continues: a hideous monstrous frankenstein experiment some call Windows 8. This time, an 11,000 word
MS blog attempting to explain why Aero is dead. In a nutshell; no one is using desktops or laptops anymore so MS in its infinite wisdom is moving to a black/gray/white default theme to extend battery life.

I actually started to read that blog and then began to drift somewhere else - Microsoft have a way of boring the hell out of me in their literature - probably, as you point out Bala, because it is something like 11,000 words ... they do mention the fact that mobile devices like phones and laptops are fast outselling desktop PC's and Windows 8 will be tailored to suit battery powered devices and I guess this is all true - but c'mon, they could have surely found a better solution than this nonsense !!?.

I put it to the ladies and gentlemen of the jury that Microsoft had well and truly missed the boat on the mobile scene, namely to Apple, and are now going all out to make absolutely certain they claw back some of that market with Windows 8 at the cost of their PC market, especially the desktop market!.

I worked in the Defence industry and often my Customer (and therefore my Master) wanted a lengthy and thorough report.  This blog is typical of the sort of rubbish I generated to keep the "Custards" (shorthand for Customer/B*st*rd) happy.  Fill up with historical facts and bury the nasty pill in the next-to-last-page!  MS have powdered their pill and spread it all the way through!

I find the section heading "3. The rise of mobile PCs over desktop PCs." interesting, because the blog assumes "mobile PCs instead of desktop PC's"

If MS actually read and understand the comments on that blog they will surely produce two OSs.  One for tablets and toys and one for proper computers (with keyboards).  I am NOT holding my breath!    :dash2:

I can't think of anything to say about MS.  It confuses me so much.  They have tried everything but building and charging a fair price for a real OS for home PCs that can handle any job from home network and theater to business to games, etc...The weirdest part is that charging more doesn't even make sense to them.  Definitely, I can't see how they could possibly believe the desktop is dead in the business arena under any circumstances, but when they haven't even stepped up with real fully optioned OS, how could they  know it's dead at home?

Maybe the option is just a ton of work, and they are trying to push 8 to try to get around it.  Still, I wonder what Sony, Toshiba and all the rest of PC manufacturers and parts manufacturers think about this tactic.  I guess I wouldn't be surprised to see a new OS from one of them at some point.  Big business management must be confounded.  Well, I think the PC junkies like me need some good news, so I hope something good happens soon.  I would sure like to be able to celebrate something for a change when it comes to OSes...

Just still confused.  Thanks for all these comments.  It's interesting, crazy as it seems to me... :scratch_one-s_head:

Well, it  looks as if Decrapifier will be a hot item. I already see it on the FBB front page, no use waiting to let users know it's on site.

Alright, I need everyone in a seated position preferably in a sturdy chair.  Can't have anyone splitting their sides.
